Jönköping - A sought-after logistics location

The demand for good logistics solutions is growing. This is particularly noticeable in Jönköping, where the ability to reach the Nordic market within 24 hours attracts many companies. Verdion's sustainable logistics facility in the fast-growing Södra Stigamo will soon be ready.

The need for competitive logistics solutions continues to grow. The development of e-commerce and the availability of warehouses to secure supply chains are two of several factors that increase the demand for strategically located premises. In some prime locations, there is a threat of land shortage – it is simply becoming full.

“The demand for space in good locations increased almost explosively during the pandemic, and this trend is still on the rise despite more challenging economic times,” says Johan Nihlmark, Nordic Business Development Manager at Verdion.

One of the places where the boom is most noticeable is Jönköping. Thanks to the city’s strategically central location and excellent road, rail and air connections, it can supply Norway, Denmark and Finland with next-day deliveries from here. The well-developed infrastructure makes it possible to reach 70 per cent of Sweden’s population within four hours.

Jönköping has a uniquely good location – and this is reflected in the pace of new establishments. Over the past six years, almost 600,000 square metres of logistics have been built here, including a couple of hundred thousand square metres this year alone. “Demand is increasing as more and more companies realise that this is the place to be, not least if you have distribution to Sweden or the Nordic region,” says Johan Nihlmark.

Strong growth

Growth is evident in Södra Stigamo, 15 kilometres south of central Jönköping. A few years ago there was nothing but forest and hills, but today the area is almost fully developed.

“South Stigamo has literally exploded; development here has gone faster than I could ever have predicted. For companies that want to come to one of the Nordic region’s strongest logistics locations, it is high time to secure space,” says Johan Nihlmark.

By the end of the year, Verdion Park Jönköping Stigamo will be ready for occupancy. The 20,500 square metre logistics facility is designed to be operationally efficient and is being built to high standards of energy efficiency and sustainability.
